Stapleton School of Dancing Child Protection Policy
The Stapleton School of Dancing has a duty of care to safeguard all children in its care from harm. All children have a right to protection and the needs of disabled children and others who may be particularly vulnerable must be taken into account. A child is defined as a person under the age of 18 (The Children Act 1989).
Policy Aims:
The aim of the Stapleton School of Dancing’s Child Protection Policy is to provide children and young people with appropriate safety and protection whilst in the care of the Stapleton School of Dancing.
Use of Photographic/Filming Equipment
- There is evidence that certain individuals have used sporting events as an opportunity to take inappropriate photographs or film footage of young people in vulnerable positions.
- We operate a policy that prevents the use of personal cameras, video recorders or mobile phone imaging unless prior authorisation is obtained from the Principal of the Stapleton School of Dancing.
- Professional photographers/video operators recording an event or activity will do so by arrangement with the Principal of the Stapleton School of Dancing.
- There is no intention to prevent dance teachers from using video equipment as a legitimate teaching aid.
Health and Safety
- For any minor accidents that may occur, the Stapleton School of Dancing holds the certificate – Emergency Aid in the workplace for appointed persons (St Johns Ambulance).
- When a parent enrols their child in the Stapleton School of Dancing it is their responsibility to ensure that the Stapleton School of Dancing is aware of any illness or disability that may affect their child during lessons.
- The Stapleton School of Dancing is aware of all fire and safety regulations and inform the children in their care what to do in the case of emergency.
- The Stapleton School of Dancing will ensure that the premises used are suitable for the classes held.
Confidentiality
- The Stapleton School of Dancing will keep any personal information regarding the children in its care confidential.
Care of Children
- The Stapleton School of Dancing ensures that all windows are kept covered during dance lessons to prevent strangers watching the children in the dance studio and to avoid distraction to the pupils.
- Young children will always be escorted to the toilet. They will not be allowed out of class unescorted for any reason.
- The Stapleton School of Dancing is responsible for the care of children once they enter the dance studio. Parents are responsible for children when they are outside the dance studio.
Discrimination/Bullying
- The Stapleton School of Dancing does not tolerate bullying or discrimination of any kind.
